summary: A free browser-based city destruction sim lets users obliterate real cities with nukes, meteors, black holes, and more, with building particles and minimal grey aesthetics.

Zoom in from the whole Earth to any real city (or type in an address), pick how it ends, and watch the buildings blow apart into particles. Nukes, meteors, a black hole, or an Independence Day ship, plus a tornado if you want something slower. Enjoy!
I built this a few months back. I know there are other destruction sims out there, but this one is mine, and the buildings actually break which i think is neat. It's completely free and runs in your browser, on phone or desktop.
One thing I'd love feedback on: the whole city is plain grey, like an architect's model. Adding textures is possible, but there are trade-offs, mainly how smoothly it runs on phones. Does the grey look work for you, or would you rather see the real city with textures? Personally i like the minimalism.

## Comments

**VolesusBarbarus:** make terrain. all cities are flat

**timcorin:** I can. The data is right there to use. But it would need som rethinking rework of the disaster fx ie black hole pulling buildings off hills or the fire ring needing to follow contour of land. I’ll try!

**war4peace79:** I picked my city, and it took minutes to load it. Then I kept right click pressed and the tab crashed.
I accessed the link again, typed in my city name, pressed search and got this, 30 seconds later: "Search is unavailable. Try again, or choose a city below."
So I dragged the map to my city again, waited few more minutes for it to load (this time it was slightly faster due to caching, I assume). then I wanted to pan the map. Switching between "Pan map" and "tilt camera" doesn't look like it does anything. I managed to pan the target to the address I wanted by holding left click on an interim distance point and so on, until I got there.
Afterwards, it went well. The effects are nice.
Ui inconsistency: The UI Yield slider for a nuke displays different values: The slider itself reads "3.6 Mt" and the field below reads "B53 9 Mt · Cold War bunker buster", for example.
The Meteor Size and Speed sliders have no values.
Keep developing it. It is promising, but still rough around the edges.

**timcorin:** I actually had values for black hole and meteor, but realistically black holes are generally far bigger than city size, and meteors are usually bigger too else they break up in the atmosphere. But ok I’ll add some values in for consistency. Good feedback

**timcorin:** Sorry what was the city you were trying to load? I’ll investigate

**war4peace79:** Bucharest.

**Inconstant_Moo:** And now you're on all the watchlists.

**artinamr:** Nice, now give this prompt: Without any visual changes optimize the animation and simulation for better performance with minimal UX sacrifice

**timcorin:** tell me more.

**TequilaTits420:** Adjust intensitiy for the nukes / meteor etc would also be cool. Also like blast radius and stuff.
But really fun to play around on, just wrecked havoc in Cape Town.

**timcorin:** little chevron opens settings lets you change the size of the destructor. mayeb i need to make that more obvious, my bad

**artinamr:** By that I mean ask your AI to optimize it.

**OneCookie5427:** Tell it to refactor its entire code base.

**timcorin:** ha the funny thing is, its exactly what im doing today haha. im rolling back to an architecture that should be much faster to load cities. i overcomplicated it. means i can add elevation as well

**OkCommunity6018:** just tried on the most hated city in the world, I am sad I can't do all at the same time 😂

**Upstairs_Weird_760:** what city?

**OkCommunity6018:** you know :)

**nit_electron_girl:** where do you get the data for building shape and height ?

**blcn:** It's in settings -> credits

**Lopsided-Wave2479:** Is a very cool creation, congrats!

**Mrfrednot:** Great! Very curious where you got the 3d city templates from, is it open source or did you buy it somewhere?

**askdoobie:** Just compute shaders and instancing I guess

**super77duck77:** Это что-то очень красивое!

**Grace_and_truth144:** I had to restart my computer after trying to open this! TWICE

**FFVoid_DreamyVoyage:** Can you add a first person camera, I can choose a place ,walk around and watch the explosion. lol

**timcorin:** ha. that would be pretty funny. i actually like that idea. give me a week

**Amoner:** How are you getting the models?

**Hearcharted:** https://giphy.com/gifs/dMn6DpYvzeKJ1UTar6

**spopr:** independence day mothership yeeaaaah

**superschmunk:** The search doesnt work.

**soundcloudkrnel:** I just tested this bruh it’s fire asf

**MartenRicks:** Its fun. I played with it. Loading and animation is a bit clunky, though. Also the effects could be a little more realistic imo.

**timcorin:** Curious what you reckon is sticking out as clunky and effects gaps?

**MartenRicks:** The loading of the city map took around 2 minutes, dont know if users are willing to wait that long.

**timcorin:** Wow that’s not right I’ll look into that
