summary: A developer uses AI (Opus 5.5, Astra) to build a procedurally generated North Atlantic island in Unity URP with terrain, forests, ocean, weather, and day cycle, running at 60+ fps on RTX 3080/3090.

About 7 days into building a North Atlantic island in Unity URP (WIP). I wanted to see how much I could enhance my tech art and graphics programming abilities with AI, using mosty Opus 5.5 and Astra for a few critiques.
The goal: one island you can walk across from the surf to a snowy summit, that looks good wherever you stop and look around. And also dive a bit near the shores. The terrain is real elevation data from Lofoten in Norway, reshaped and modified into an island about 4 × 5 km with a 1,000 m peak. Overcast is normal, fog is common and sunshine is rare.
Not a single thing was placed manually, there's procedural systems to place anything from fallen leaves to the meso-/macro-scale terrain changes, undergrowth and rock placement etc.
So far: the terrain and its rock, moss and heath; birch and pine forests from my own tree and forest generator, 25,000+ trees; and hundreds of thousands of ferns and ground plants; an ocean with waves and surf, underwater visuals, lakes, ponds, a stream and a waterfall; clouds that form and dissolve; rain, fog, starry sky and a full day cycle.
The video comes straight from the engine, kilometres of draw distance, custom volumetrics, atmospheric system, lighting/shadow-casting and geometry generation in compute shaders.
Footage straight from the engine, running well above 60 fps at 1440p. Work in progress.
Wildlife and sound not yet implemented.
Terrain based on Nasjonal høydemodell DTM 1 m, © Kartverket (CC BY 4.0), modified.

## Comments

**CopperHook:** Looks cool. What's your goal beyond what you stated? Do you see this as a tech demo, or do you plan to turn it into a game or something else?

**joe9439:** You’re becoming claude.

**Worldly-Hotel-7921:** Lmao they're downvoting you but you're exactly right

**Roydl:** You are absolutely right. This was a load bearing observation.

**kYlejAEnz:** There's the smoking gun.

**mr_birkenblatt:** Do you want to add some human sacrificing sites on the idyllic beaches? Just say the word

**19Lobster19:** 😂😂😂😂

**DistributionTop6983:** Just for the love of the game

**Takre:** Love this - have been trying to utilise Claude to learn the basics of things like this (environment generation) just as a matter of interest - any resources or additional insights/info you could share?

**dcidino:** Can we get this onto Red Dead 2, and make that map a lot larger please?

**roerius:** I thought you recreated the island from Jurassic Park for a second 😄

**max_retik:** What’s your computer setup for running this? Is it efficient or high end hardware?

**imlo2:** It's not super optimized yet (I've just spent a few days on it so far total), but with the maxed out settings it runs well on a RTX 3080 or 3090 (60-100fps in 1440p). Many things could be cached to reduce compute, skip some frames of calculation and interpolate, make it a few things utilize temporal rendering etc.

**rainbowtoasti:** Cool, now put Norman Reedus in it

**AnduriII:** Looks like anno 117

**convcross:** Add Oceanic 815 plane on the beach

**dr_hamilton:** Any plans to open source?

**Man-on-rock:** I would love to be able to use that for one of my projects. is this an open source world you have built? does it run in the browser or does it need heavy rendering?

**Emotional-Cut2952:** cool, please as others usually say, share the prompt, the process, and any code / scripts opus uses
Edit: get a cheap model to process your source code and share a summary of how it's built, this can be made into a skill for an agent

**flockbaygames:** When you get to sound I'd blend AudioMixer snapshots from the same weather and altitude values that drive your fog and rain, so the wind in the birches rises with the rain and the surf drops away as you climb toward the snow.

**anime_daisuki:** Reminds me of Space Engineers

**Ilves7:** The first shot kinda looks like makaha on Oahu, Hawaii, Pic

**rafalmio:** flight simulator ahh music i like it

**Chocolatechair:** This is amazing, please consider sharing the repo.

**VampishWolf:** This is interesting, I put together a place for all the awesomeness that claude is doing along with their propmpts, Do checkout https://comotion.design , happy to hear thoughts and feedback.

**mikkolukas:** Looks cool, but why are you showing a Minecraft terrain generator?

**imlo2:** This has nothing to do with Minecraft.

**mikkolukas:** r/whoosh

**Straight_Coffee_368:** Ugly textures
