My wife's a game dev and asked me to help her put together a hospital corridor environment. My first thought was to use one of the image-to-3D generators, but then I wondered if an LLM could just drive Blender directly through MCP instead.
Quick disclaimer: I'm not a 3D artist. I can't model, UV unwrap, or light a scene manually. I'm an art director, so my skill set is prompting and directing, not hand-crafting geometry.
What you're seeing in the video is GPT-6 Astra using Blender MCP to build the entire environment from scratch: the corridor architecture, modular doors (open/closed/ajar variants), patient room interiors, hospital props (beds, IV stands, carts, wheelchairs, etc.), nurse station, lighting setup, and a short cinematic flythrough animation, all from text prompts, no external assets.
Took about around ~45 minutes from first prompt to final rendered clip.
Happy to do a full write-up or step-by-step on setting up Blender MCP and the prompting approach if people are interested. Just let me know.
- Blockout stage: Build a realistic, explorable hospital corridor from scratch, roughly 35 meters long with a modular doorway system, alternating door states, a nurse station, and daylight windows at the far end, using an organized collection structure and a cinematic camera setup; construct the architectural blockout only and pause for approval before adding props or materials.
- Detailed dressing stage: Working within the approved corridor, add fully modeled reusable door panels and hospital props (beds, gurneys, wheelchairs, IV stands, carts, oxygen trolleys, and more), dress the four most visible patient rooms with partial interiors, upgrade the nurse station with desks and equipment, compose props deliberately across foreground, midground, and background, add environmental storytelling touches (loose papers, a displaced ceiling tile, mild wear), and refine the lighting to match the reference image before saving and rendering a preview still.
- Camera animation stage: Without altering any existing geometry or props, add a short 8-second forward camera push through the corridor using the existing camera's own orientation, keep the motion smooth with eased acceleration and only extremely subtle handheld-style sway, verify the path is clear of obstructions with test frames, then render and save the final animated video.
- Relighting stage: Keeping all geometry, props, and camera animation untouched, rework the lighting, materials, and color management to shift the scene from flat and overlit to a moodier, restrained cinematic look, with darker foreground pools, uneven ceiling fixture intensity, warm light spilling from a few patient rooms, a bright but non-blown-out far window, adjusted material roughness values, AgX color management, and very subtle volumetric haze, stopping after three lighting test frames are rendered for review.

**Powerful_Brief1724:** Is gpt6 included in the pro plan or do you have to pay $200? What about tokens? Do they reset after a time limit or are you given a limited amount per month?
Cool info btw!

**Time-Ad-7720:** I am using the $25/month subscription. This one used 90% of my 5-hr usage limit.

**oceanstwelve:** sorry i dont use chatgpt monthly subscription.
after 5 hours did you get back your limit? or it was gone for the month.
how much monthly quota you consumed in this ?

**Time-Ad-7720:** It used 5hr usage limit, not monthly/weekly quota.

**councilmember:** How do you monitor your quota? I never know but can tell when I’ve maxed out. Amazing project by the way.

**muticere:** If you pull up Settings, one of the tabs says "Usage" and you can see what percent you still have left of 5 hour and weekly. You could also ask ChatGPT how to find it.

**Time-Ad-7720:** I kept checking usage limit on the chatgpt app settings every 5 minutes lol.

**TheFrenchSavage:** 5h limit eats away at your weekly, about 12% last time I checked.

**mrASSMAN:** So it’s 5hr per day you mean?

**Powerful_Brief1724:** You have a limit of tokens and every 5 hours that amount resets. Also, that amount counts towards a total of token that you can use weekly, which do reset too once a week.

**NeedleworkerNarrow56:** How did astra took only just one 5 hour limit , I have same plan and even normal simple tasks take full 5 hour limits let alone modelling something big in blender.

**Time-Ad-7720:** If you do this with “computer use” plugin, it will consume a lot of tokens. But if you use mcp, it’s more cost efficient.

**Veanusdream:** what was the promt?

**Time-Ad-7720:** Check the post description.

**HungryAddition1:** This is insane!

**AdmiralMcNugget:** Many people report that Astra is decent at building 3d models but poor at optimizing them, so you end up with a bunch of objects that don't share a mesh and bog down the framerate. I'd be interested in knowing if you experienced the same.

**bmanzzs:** That happened to me initially. Then I told Astra to "redo the model with a reduced polygon count, 2k textures, 1k normal/specular. Maintain graphical fidelity as much as you can". That worked beautifully

**BeingComfortablyDumb:** If you know how to fix that, is it a bug or a feature then?
It's now building for you. I asked Astra to give a makeover to a game I built and honestly, it blew my mind. Had to make a few tweaks but still. What took Sol/Fable 10 prompts, takes Astra only one.

**GratefulForGarcia:** I've had crazy good success by generating the model with Meshy first, then having it get passed to Blender by GPT for optimization/rigging/animation. Models that are made with just Astra look goofy af

**Powerful_Brief1724:** Also, would the amount of polygons be an issue in terms of optimization? Nice question btw

**Netsuko:** A guide for setting up blender MCP would be awesome!

**GratefulForGarcia:** I didn’t even have to set it up. I asked Astra if we could use Blender, and it just installed Blender on the virtual instance and ran what I needed there without touching my local Blender install
Also what sort of guide is going to help set up GPT + Blender better than GPT itself? I'm asking because I see a lot of guide requests on this sub which is confusing. Everything I do with AI was taught to me by AI

**Time-Ad-7720:** https://giphy.com/gifs/d89Q8oADMlvAB2iWv4

**BeingComfortablyDumb:** Brother, just tell your AI to find the reputated MCP plugin. Ain't that hard.
They even have inbuilt plugins now so just literally tell it “I want you to connect to Blender via MCP”, give it permissions and it will download and also setup the rest.

**Alternative_Equal864:** dont know why somebody would downvote this guy. this is the way

**Alternative_Equal864:** bro it really works ho ly fuck. modified the initial prompt, added some lights etc. Great outcome, I didn't touch blender for a second

**Ok-Yogurtcloset5353:** mcp driving blender python api directly is wild. the staged pipeline approach (blockout -> dressing -> camera -> relighting) is literally how you prevent the llm from hallucinating spaghetti geometry. vibe coding full 3d environments in 45 mins rn is insane, we live in a simulation. definitely drop the write-up and prompts, need to test this pipeline with threejs exports.

**BeingComfortablyDumb:** It's very intuitive dude. I can't stop thinking about the things I can do now. But nothing would mean anything if i dont find a way to monetise it.
For context, I outlined a map, fed it a story behind the map (like drew a detailed Middle-earth type map) on paper, attached a few reference images I generated and I was fuxking stumbled on what it had made. Sure it was poorly optimised and had some issues but my god!! We aren't too far from having a personal Jarvis 24/7.

**Tentacle_poxsicle:** So wait, does it make these objects in blender?

**Alternative_Equal864:** yes. i just tried ist. astra makes EVERYTHING. you can start by saying "i have blender installed on my computer, find and install the blender mcp plugin"

**Tentacle_poxsicle:** It literally just made a game in Godot when I asked it. Holy god this thing

**Roni1209:** From scratch huh

**Powerful_Brief1724:** Time to learn scratch ++

**BeingComfortablyDumb:** That's true.
Learning Blender from scratch vs Learning Blender from scratch++ with AI and MCP, who do you think is likely to have a job in the future?

**Time-Ad-7720:** https://giphy.com/gifs/DEnaNFg7szMO7TwNYZ

**BeingComfortablyDumb:** Let me guess, you're a Blender artist who finds this sinful.

**johnny_effing_utah:** I know nothing of Blender other than what it does. Do I have to be good at using it? Do I have to pay for Blender separately?

**gutster_95:** Blender is Open Source. So no need to pay for anything

**ShiningRedDwarf:** You forgot to render Joel

**suitedman:** https://preview.redd.it/mvz8c2yrzbph1.png?width=2054&format=png&auto=webp&s=5290c9587cfa0503f7a8b24271fe8f7b17c01c15
Very cool benchmark :) I tried the first two prompts/stages (without Camera animation stage and Relighting stage) with DeepSeek 4.1 flash, and here's the result. Not bad either, I think.

**muticere:** Yeah I'm fully addicted now thanks to Astra. I can admit it. I was already getting there before, but Astra is such next level that I'm stuck for good.

**Azilen:** Which MCP you used?

**Time-Ad-7720:** Blender MCP

**djoliverm:** What thinking level did you use for it to only use up one 5hr session on the $20 plan? Creative Technolist and Art Director who is also wanting to do the same myself for projects and work, but want to test it out first.

**OneTotal466:** This is f***ing incredible. The implications of this has my mind reeling.

**ValiantWeirdo:** Looks good but cost? Optimization? Flexibility?
